Part 6
Working with the loss
Tip: Some people don’t push away. Bailey was visiting Nanna’s grave every day to try and hold on to memories. It helped Bailey to visit Nanna’s grave once a week instead. Bailey did some fun activities from Part 2 instead of the daily visits and felt better.
Note for Parents and Carers
If you need more help, think about some of the resources here, or talk to your GP (i.e., family doctor) about getting a referral for your child and/or yourself to see a mental health professional for more support.
This website also has more information on getting help for traumatic loss (e.g., losing a loved one through something like an accident): Home - Phoenix Australia.
Help can also be found any time of day or night through these places.
If you have pictures in your head and memories that are difficult, you can try the ideas in Part 7.
Tip: Not everyone will have experienced the loss of a loved one.
You can try this for anything you have avoided. For example, Jamie used this to start seeing friends again, by writing down 3 steps from the easiest task: asking a friend to catch up, a harder task – working out where to catch up, through to the most difficult task – seeing a friend for a hot chocolate.
