Part 4

NOW IT’S YOUR TURN TO TRY

To get started:

  • Think about something you are pushing away.

  • What is the worst that could happen if you face what you’ve been avoiding?

Next, test this thought in an experiment like the ones you’ve just read about.

Make an experiment to test your thought!

Tip:

  • It doesn’t have to be too detailed, just give it a go.

  • You don’t have to do the exercise straight away after looking at this page. If you’re feeling a bit sick, or having an off day, you can do it another day.

  • You can also record your experiment in a journal or diary. You don’t have to use the worksheet, if you don’t want to.

What did you learn?

  • Did you find out what you thought would happen was not true?

  • Even if it did come true, was it not as bad as you expected?

Download this sheet and keep trying different experiments.

  • Try doing 1 or 2 experiments a week.

  • You can also develop a flashcard, where you write down all your new thoughts you learned from your experiments.

  • Remember you can put the experiments in your own words, like in a journal.

  • You don’t have to use the worksheets, if you would rather write about the experiments in your journal or diary, or draw a picture about it.
