How to Use This Program
You can choose how to work through the program together with a parent or another adult.
It’s fine also if you don’t want to do it with an adult if you are older.
Tips for parents and carers
Older children (e.g., 11-12 years):
If you are a parent of an older child, try and go with what they prefer.
Let them decide what works best for them (whether to work through it on their own, or with you).
Younger children (e.g., 6-10 years):
If you are a parent of a younger child, complete this together and help your child work through each webpage.
Try and reduce other distractions (set your phone to silent, turn off the TV).
Find a time when you are not in a rush.
Read it together or listen to each webpage read out and work through the exercises as a team.
Is it a shared loss you have been through?
If it is a shared loss that you have been through with your child (e.g., loss of your partner or child), doing some of these exercises is likely to be upsetting.
Think about whether it is useful for you to seek further support for yourself (see Grief Australia: Grief and Bereavement Support Grief Australia)
Be gentle with yourself, think also about your own needs for support as you and your child work through the website.
Join in with your child in the ‘cool down activities’ after looking at the website.
Talk to your GP about if you think a referral for further support may be helpful, or see these websites:
